March Mouth Microbiome Health

Our oral health is of the utmost importance to our overall wellness. It’s nice to know you care as much as I do about this. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I welcome you to let me know what you currently use and I can guide you as to what is best for you and your needs. This isn’t about spending a lot of money, it is about choosing wisely. One company I am personally having a love affair with is Living Libations. I use almost all of their hair and skin care products and do their entire oral care regime. I also have used, and sell, a prebiotic toothpaste called Revitin that my holistic facialist turned me onto years ago. Please let me know if you would like assistance with purchasing any new products. There is an affiliate link below for Living Libations.

Because my adorable husband’s response to this was, ‘this is gonna take an hour!’ Hahaha. I timed it and would you believe that we do have time to do it! :) It takes about four minutes or so. (minus the oil pulling) But don’t rush! This is a time to care for yourself and my wish for you is to do this practice mindfully. I am simply sharing how long it takes because I know many people are going to say they don’t have the time and I am here to say, yes, you do. You know what we don’t have time for? Plaque, cavities, root canals, dental implants and gum disease. And even if it did take an hour, it would be well worth it for all the benefits you will reap from this nurturing practice of oral care, preventative medicine and self love. Invest the time, you’re worth it!

8 Step Holistic Oral Care
1. Salt water rinse
I use a large glass jar and fill it with 20 oz. water/1 oz. Himalayan sea salt, it should taste like the ocean. :)

2. Scrape your tongue 2-3 times and rinse your mouth again to remove bacteria from the tongue. 3. Brush your gums gently using an ionic toothbrush. Brush from gum downwards toward tooth. Your toothbrush should look brand new after one year of use; use gentle motions.
I use a drop of Yogi Tooth Serum on the toothbrush.
4. Use a sulca brush to brush the line between the teeth and gums. 5. Floss twice, yes, twice. :) 6. Polish your teeth with a dry electric toothbrush.
*I am debating on continuing with my electric toothbrush because I happen to have thin and sensitive gums, something I learned this past year from all of my dental specialists. Makes sense per my composition. :) That being said they still serve a great purpose but I am finding that I cannot use mine without it touching my gums and I want to avoid that as it feels too aggressive. I might go back to old school brushing and use the ionic toothbrush. Pay attention to how much real estate your electric toothbrush covers. I am looking for a smaller head for my electric toothbrush so it simply polishes the teeth and doesn’t touch the gums.

7. Oil Pulling/Swishing
I have tried a bunch of different swishing oils and I personally like pure coconut butter the best. I am waiting on Living Libations swishing oil and I’m sure I will love it.
*Some say to oil pull first thing but I prefer to have a clean mouth when I oil pull. You are welcome to see what works for you. Since this step is 10-20 minutes, I usually do this step while I am getting dressed, preparing my breakfast, answering emails, etc. Or even while sitting and doing a morning meditation or taking a bath/shower. Spit out the oil in the trash though, not the sink.

8. Salt rinse after pulling.

CocoFloss or Dr. Tung Smart Floss
I didn’t like the Dr. Tang vegan charcoal dental floss because it broke down too much between my teeth and the charcoal was a bit messy but the floss is amazing! If you use this please be careful and gentle with your gums. The cardamom Smart Floss is a little easier to use. The CocoFloss is similar to Dr. Tung’s but a bit easier glide. I will never go back now that I have experienced smart floss. It is like a loofah for your teeth. Amazing!

Dr. Tung’s ionic toothbrush
Here is some more information on ionic toothbrushes:
Plaque gets released even in hard to reach areas. It is clinically proven to be far more effective than a regular toothbrush and users report cleaner, whiter teeth and little or no plaque when visiting their dentist. Dr. Tung’s Ionic toothbrush breaks this ionic bond between plaque and teeth by temporarily reversing the polarity of tooth surfaces as you brush. Plaque molecules are then repelled by teeth and drawn to the negatively polarized bristles of the IONIC toothbrush.
