Oil Pulling

Just a quick note.

Step #8, Oil Pulling

Some have requested a bit more info on Oil pulling so here you go.

Oil pulling, also known as “kavala” or “gundusha,” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes. This action supposedly draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall healthpractice.

Some say 3-10 minutes, some say 10-20 minutes, some say it should be the first step, some say it should be last, some say brush after, rinse after, etc. You can see how this will become your practice. If you won’t oil pull for 20 minutes but you will oil pull for 5 minutes, then I am happy. A little is better than none. I welcome you to do what is right for you and what intuitively feels like it works for you. Some days I swish longer and some days I do it first thing, some days last. I put it last on our list because, intuitively, it feels right for me to do a 10 minute ritual of oil pulling with as clean as a mouth as I can have. I would rather have gotten rid of a lot of the bacteria before I pull, BUT oil puling gets rid of bacteria so it is honestly up to you. It does make sense to do a quick salt rinse, or brush after though so feel out what works for you.

Happy pulling!

PS
I received a question this morning about what to do after you eat. You of course can floss and brush whenever you feel you need to. The practice I am sharing with you is more of a sacred ritual to drop into morning and evening. But please do use common sense and take care of your mouth as needed throughout your day.

Feel free to email me any questions you may have as you venture into this magical world of microbiome oral health.
