You have plenty of courage, I am sure.

Yes, you do indeed. I find it helpful to reformat how we see courage playing out in our life. There is so much said about courage and it most always seems to have the word fearless mixed up in it. Well, I would like to give you the gift of clearing that myth and framing courage a bit differently. Allow me, I you will…

I recently experienced a serious head injury and am in the initial stages of healing. As you can image, there is a lot of unknowns with traumatic brain injuries, head trauma, concussions, etc. I was thrown into the pool of fear and if I haven’t been a swimmer in the pool of life for my entire existence then the fear might have kept me from being courageous and walking through this process with trust, mindfulness, and wisdom.

What I wish to introduce to you is the concept of being scared and having courage. Being courageous doesn’t mean you can’t feel fear, or any other emotion for that matter. I want to empower you to the point that no matter what you are feeling you can also be courageous, strong, invincible, and able to walk through whatever life might present to you.

I am scared but I am not weak. I feel fear but I am not a coward. I have waves of anxiety but I am not helpless, hopeless, or spineless. If anything I would like to shift this narrative so much that it flips on it’s axis.
Instead of the old way of thinking, such as:
Buck up.
Be strong.
Don’t cry.
Never let them see you sweat.
Don’t be scared.
Don’t be nervous.

Try these on for size:

When I am scared I am being courageous.
It takes courage to feel fear.
I am brave for being able to feel anxiety.
I am a powerful being who is able to feel all of the waves on the spectrum of human emotion.
I have a super power of being able to feel an uncomfortable emotion.

You see how it is actually the opposite of what society has taught us all along? Let’s empower the world with permission to be a super hero, who is courageous because we can feel. And stop the old tapes telling us not to feel or what to change to be courageous. What if there wasn’t anything to change at all? Ah, sit with that for a while and see what comes up for you.

As always, please share your questions, feedback, and personal experience with me. I am here.

Massive love and blessings of good health to you.
Love,
Dove
