Hello my love,
Allow us to go even deeper for this month’s theme. I have chosen the ever so important theme of Estate Wellness for this month of May. May we all live long and prosperous lives and be prepared for when they come to an end. Our culture tends to shy away from these topics and we are left with quite an overwhelming experience when it does touch us. Let us all take the time now to tend to these corners of our lives and proactively help our loved ones.
As you all know I have walked through the passing of my precious mother many years ago and more recently the passing of my cherished mother-in-law. My husband and I have managed the terrain of an out of state probate and received a massive download of wisdom in the process. And currently I am helping a few loved ones with end of life planning. As I walk through all of this I am reminded of the importance of having one’s affairs in order and continuing to revise it as needed over the years.
I feel there is great value in shining light on this aspect of our holistic wellness; our Estate Wellness, financial health, our deepest wishes for our end of life experiences, and how we wish to leave this world. We spend a lot of time, energy and money, on how we wish to live this life but not so much on our departure. I have a girlfriend who has put me in charge of her funeral wishes; down to the food she would like served. She is no where near the end of her life but she has made this point very clear to me for the past few decades. We should all be in conversation with our loved ones about this organic aspect of our time here on earth.
My husband and I are revisiting our wills, trusts, and other estate details to make sure all are in order. I have even gone so far as creating a list of what I would like gifted to people in my life so there is no need for him to figure out what to do with everything. I know this doesn’t come as a surprise to you, for those who know me well. I know it will help him in those moments of not knowing what to do with my worldly belongings, should I depart first. Just know you will all be gathering on the beach, wearing white, sitting in gratitude, smiling at the waves, eating organic vegetarian food, at sunset, sharing stories, laughing, crying and holding my Spirit in your hearts as you bid me farewell from this human experience with full hearts carrying me with you as you continue on; knowing I will always be with you, in all ways. (Yes, I just got teary eyed as I wrote this but its okay. They are important words to share.)
We can all love our loved ones demonstratively while we are still here and make the experience lighter, simpler, and one less thing for them to have to decide upon in our absence. As one who has walked through great grief, trauma and loss, I can say that decision making is one of the most challenging aspects to have to contend with. Any tiny drop of help along the way has a radical ripple effect of support. May we all spend some time tending to our estate wellness and make sure everything is in order.
May we also open conversations with loved ones and allow this topic to become normalized, perhaps even welcomed within families, amongst friends and other loved ones. Please share your experience with me and ask me any questions you may have. We must remember we are not alone here and this journey is rich, deep, big, and at times foreign. It’s okay to lean into community along the way; you are in good company.
Be well.
