Hi loves,
For the month of October I thought we could deep dive together into the world of ingredients. I’m going to keep this super simple for us all. In fact, that is the entire point of the game. Keep your ingredients super simple. Eat real food and if it is packaged, pre-made, food then read the ingredients and make sure there are:
No sugars.
No natural flavors.
Deal?
We are going to deep dive in our own home and while we are at the marke. We are going to read every single label in our kitchen and make sure we are not unconsciously harming our body; our immune system, lymphatic system, endocrine system, blood, mood, sleep, skin, bones, lipid health, or anything at all.
Do you know how many of my clients talk to me about headaches, insomnia, body aches, arthritis, rashes, food cravings, energy crashes, anxiety, stress, depression, hot flashes, and so much more??? A lot. That’s how many. And sadly, so many of these people are consuming foods that have ingredients that can wreck havoc on our general health and homeostasis.
Side note, let’s also continue to not consume dairy, gluten, alcohol, caffeine, along with sugars and natural flavorings. And eat organic, non-GMO foods.
We want our food to nourish us, not harm us. And yes, I know, I’ve heard it all. But it’s so delicious, is not a reason to eat something. I know how you might love some foods, even be addicted to them, but those are the ones we want to be very clear on what exactly we are putting into our body. (And sorry to say, those are most likely the ones with ingredients that are not in alignment with you staying healthy.)
You can do this any way you want. You can spend an afternoon looking at every label in your pantry and fridge, or you can take your time and every time you use a product you can look a little closer at what exactly is in it.
For this month we are simply going to be looking at sugars and natural flavors. What’s the story with natural flavors you ask? I have attached two PDFs for those interested in educating themselves more. If you don’t have the time to read them, which is another issue altogether, then simply know this: don’t eat foods with the words natural flavors in the ingredients. Period. The end.
The good news is there are wonderful alternatives to almost everything. AND! I am here to help you source them if you need help.
We don’t want sugar in our ketchup, granola, mustard, mayo, cheese, milk, etc. And we don’t want ingredients in our foods that are labeled as natural flavors but we have absolutely no idea what they actually are.
I am constantly researching, and learning more and more about what these companies are doing. I help all my clients become wiser and self-sufficient in taking care of their health and well-being on a daily basis. There have been one or two companies that would disclose some general information about their natural flavors but none would be completely transparent so it is best to simply avoid.
If you discover that your favorite granola has sugar in it and even natural flavors added to it, do not worry, I have solutions! I am here to help. This is not bad news. It is actually good news because together we are going to make you even healthier; and wiser.
Please reach out if you have any questions. And follow along on Instagram this month as I will be posting suggestions, motivations, and a plethora of recipes to feed your body well all month long, and beyond!
I love you. I care about your health. I deeply care about what we put in our bodies and what companies we support. Let’s make wise decisions together, eh?
Peace.
