Hello my loves,
For the month of August I invite you to become mindful of daily glimmers ✨.
A dear friend and I always share our unicorn moments; sparkly experiences, glimmers ✨ if you will. We connect daily to notice the magic in life; the unexpected, the light shining through the cracks/problems/stress, the random acts of kindness from strangers, the little messages tucked into the corners of our day that are only received if we are living a slow, mindful, present life.
A glimmer ✨is a small, miraculous moment that requires noticing; moments that enchant you, open your heart, and make you come alive. A glimmer is the opposite of a trigger. In today’s world, where we are inundated with so much intense news, fear mongering, and overstimulation of our nervous systems, we need to shift and look for the light, glimmers ✨, in the darkest places.
Glimmers ✨ are unfolding all around us, all of the time, but we need to conscious and intentional as we look for them to counter what’s called “the negativity bias.” The negativity bias is the tendency for the brain to pay more attention to negative events, essentially, to help us survive. Negative events are like velcro for the brain, while positive events are more like teflon…so we need to find ways to help the glimmers ✨ stick. Becoming more aware of their existence is one powerful way.
To counter the negativty bias, we need to practice looking for these moments; these glimmers ✨/magic/unicorn moments. This will require us to unplug, slow down, look up and step into the conversation with life; with nature, animals, breathing, the Now. Needless to say, this enhances our emotional well-being and overall happiness, and makes life more meaningful. By deliberately paying attention to and savoring these positive experiences, we can cultivate a more balanced and joyful outlook on life.
A couple of days ago, right after I was drafting this email about glimmers ✨, I went for a walk, looked up, and saw a literal glimmer ✨ in the sky. Sometimes they are right there waiting for you and sometimes they are in the little crevices, so be ready to receive from everywhere! Glimmers ✨ help us to pause, open our hearts, open our minds, and connect with something bigger than our conception of ourselves. We are grand beings, capable of greatness—we are glimmers ✨ ourselves. Being alive is a glimmer ✨moment but we must be in a mindset to truly embody this truth and relish in it.
What glimmers ✨ have you seen lately? I look forward to hearing all about your experiences.
I look forward to seeing you in class and out in the world.
Sending love, now; and always.
